A Story of Perseverance

September 11, 2001 (9/11) marks the day of one of the worse terrorist attacks on United States soil. Devised to instill panic and fear in the American people, this unprecedented attack traumatized many while impacting the American psyche. As many ran for their lives in New York City to evacuate the mayhem, others watch the tragedy on live television as it transpired. The world was in complete shock. Our team, comprised of prior travel agents, worked around the corner from ground zero and were extremely fortunate enough to escape the adversity unharmed.

Ultimately, the American people unanimously agreed and united together with the government to generate a solution so that the magnitude of a terrorist attack, similar to 9/11, could never happen again. Consequently, the U.S. Congress passed the Aviation and Transportation Security Act on November 19, 2001. The act established the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and empowered them with hiring security screeners at 450 commercial airports nationwide, within the span of only 12 months, changing the way people traveled domestically as well as internationally forever. Although this preventative action was effective at ceasing all possible threats, it created an inefficient means of travel where complexion and discomfort arose.

We, as travel agents at-the-time, noticed that most Americans still feared flying as airports and airplanes did not fully regain public trust despite the TSA implementation. On the side, we began working as free agents or greeters, for concierge companies specializing in airports worldwide to help cater, comfort, and navigate clients through the new unfamiliar airport process. The airport concierge service niche drastically gained popularity among travelers and word-of-mouth promotion exploded the segment. Over the years, companies realized that a majority of their reoccurring clients were VIPs that ranged from corporate officers of fortune 500 companies to celebrities, politicians, producers, directors, entertainers, professional athletes, and so forth. However, some of these companies soon began to be self-driven by greed and exploited the inherent weaknesses of their VIP clients while practicing price discrimination or charging each client a different rate for the same exact service rendered solely based on their income level or VIP status. As greeters preforming the physical service for third party companies, we soon realized that working for other companies, with toxic unethical company culture, was not going to be our future.

In 2015, a group of experienced airport greeters banded together and created their own company – formally known as Travel Greeter. We swore to provide the same concierge services as before at a minimum, but at a reasonably fair price without implementing price discrimination.
